Privacy

Councils compared doesn't use cookies, doesn't ask you to sign in, and doesn't keep anything that identifies you.

Who is responsible

Ryan O'Callaghan runs this website and is responsible for any personal data it handles. Contact: [email protected].

Counting visits

Visits are counted with Umami, run on our own server rather than by an advertising company. It records the page you viewed, the website that sent you, your type of browser, device and operating system, and roughly where you are (country and town). It doesn't use cookies, doesn't record your IP address, and doesn't follow you across other websites. The figures are only used to see which pages are useful.

Searching by postcode

If you search by postcode, it is sent to postcodes.io, a free postcode lookup run by Ideal Postcodes, to find your council and neighbourhood. We don't store it, it isn't put in the page address, and it isn't recorded in the visit figures.

Hosting

The website is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, and may keep it briefly in security logs.

If you email

If you email us, your email and address are only used to reply, and are deleted when they are no longer needed.

Your rights

The lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests: running a website that people can use and that stays secure. You can ask what data is held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, by emailing [email protected]. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
